About this medicine
Jalra M 50/500 mg tablet is a combination of two anti-diabetic medications, used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps to control the high blood glucose levels.
Each film coated Jalra M 50/500 mg tablet contains Vildagliptin 50 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg.
Vildagliptin selectively inhibits the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) enzyme that rapidly truncates and inactivates incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Incretin hormones increase insulin synthesis and decrease glucagon release in a manner dependent on glucose concentrations. These effects lead to an overall increase in blood glucose control.
Metformin is a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent which improves glucose tolerance by lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose. It decreases hepatic glucose production, delays intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity by enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
